Classification of Forging Processes

According to the forming mechanism, forging can be divided into free forging, die forging, ring forging, and special forging.

Free forging generally refers to the method of hammering metal ingots or blocks into the desired shape and size using simple tools on a forging hammer or hydraulic press.

Die forging is the process of forming a mold using a forging hammer or hot forging machine.

Ring forging refers to the production of circular parts of different diameters using specialized equipment called ring forging machines. It is also used to produce wheel shaped parts such as car wheels and train wheels.

Special forging methods include roll forging, cross wedge rolling, radial forging, liquid forging, etc., which are suitable for producing some irregular parts.
